Why Mizu No Kaori is German Village’s Must-Try Ramen Spot

by admin

Warm weather be damned: I’m craving ramen!

Mizu No Kaori is a tiny ramen shop dishing out some serious ramen and tsukamen on South Fourth Street in German Village, in a space many will recognize as the original home to Harvest Pizzeria.

On our visit, we dug into three bowls of ramen and their signature deluxe aburi chashu don bowl, which almost got the most votes for favorite dish on the table.

We started first with cups of green tea…

…and some salted edamame.

The classic tonkotsu ramen layers pork chashu, sprouts, green onion, nori, and an egg in a pork bone broth with black garlic oil.

The garlic tonkotsu ramen is built around a creamier broth with fall-apart tender pork chashu, wood ear mushrooms, corn, scallions, and an egg. It was one of my favorite bites of the meal.

The tantanmen features a red pork broth with ground pork, wood ear mushrooms, sprouts, scallions, and an egg.

And while the ramen was the star of the show, the deluxe aburi chashu don was the sleeper hit. It layers steamed rice, a choice of ground pork and chicken chashu, sweet corn scallions, and an egg.

We really loved it all, and we’re ready to go back and try more!

Mizu No Kaori is open Sunday-Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
