16 New Coffee Shops That Opened in 2024

by admin

You could call 2024 Year of the Coffee in Columbus! Between welcoming new shops, seeing favorite roasters open their first storefronts, watching others expand or move into new homes – it’s been a delightfully busy year in Columbus coffee. This doesn’t cover all of it, but here are 16 new coffee shops that opened in Columbus in 2024!

Moonbird Coffee debuted at the beginning of 2024 with an adorable soft green trailer in Grandview, tucked into a parking lot behind The View on Fifth. Owners Candice and Eric O’Neill are wonderfully welcoming, and their coffee is top notch. I love stopping for an espresso, their Mystic Rhythm latte, or one of their seasonal creations.

After years operating as a mobile coffee cart, Two Tigers Coffee opened what is perhaps the city’s smallest coffee shop. It occupies a narrow storefront in Clintonville, but is a testament that size doesn’t matter. Tony uses a mix of roasters to craft hand-pulled espresso, drip coffee, chai, matcha, and more.

After an award-winning run as a roaster, Royal Flamingo debuted its own coffee shop inside I Like It Like That cocktail bar, itself inside Natalie’s in Grandview. The cozy and eclectic shop is a showcase of Bryan’s dynamic coffee lineup, from expert blends to medal-earning, uniquely sourced roasts. I personally love the Barista’s Breakfast, a tasting board of espresso, a flat white, and a batch brew.

Qahwah House is the latest shop in an influx of Yemeni coffee shops to central Ohio, like Finjin Cafe or Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co. Like many of the shops, Qahwah House is based in eastern Michigan. Their beautiful downtown space features a full lineup of traditional Yemeni drinks (using rustic Yemeni coffees, of course), as well as traditional Italian espresso drinks, snacks, and more. If you love the place, you’re in luck: they’re already planning another location in town.

Kokomo is a little outpost on the growing stretch of Parsons Avenue that offers a range of coffees, teas, juices, and snacks. The one-room shop features indoor seating and lovely patios for relaxing with a Maria’s Cafecito or a creamy nitro cold brew.

Over recent years Black Kahawa went from roaster to a trailer, and this year they finally settled in a home at Broad and High downtown. Owner Doug Buckley focuses on importing and roasting East African coffees, and he’s showcased them in local shops and on the streets. His space breathes new life into the old Tim Horton’s, and it’s a nice spot great for relaxing with their nitro cold brew flavored with their Zanzibar spice blend.

It’s been a year of homecomings, I’d say! Like a few other roasters in town, Jennings Java finally debuted their own coffee shop in 2024. Owners Daniel and AJ have been roasting for years, transitioning from a carryout spot to selling bottle coffees at the back of the space, and now finally a full-service shop in the original Bake Me Happy space in Merion Village. Bonus: you can also enjoy their coffees at Nocterra Brewing’s new Audubon restaurant.

Honey Cup Coffee Co. also made the move this year into their own space, following a couple years’ journey from trailer to shop inside Rambling House. Kick back in their shop amongst spinning records, vintage decor, fun community events, and of course – excellent coffee.

While Mission certainly isn’t a new roaster – and this shop isn’t even new to them! – it was still big news when they returned to the Short North. The Price Avenue space was their original shop and roastery before they underwent multiple moves and ownership changes. They’re still roasting and serving on the South Side, but in 2024 they were able to get back to their roots.

Casa Cacao perhaps gets the award for Columbus’ most unique new coffee shop. It makes its home in a long-empty space on Hudson Street, and features eclectic decor like tables inset with rocks and arrowheads. Its threefold menu focuses on drinks made with coffee, cacao (real cacao – don’t think sugary hot chocolate here), and the kava plant.
